There are no backwards compatible hardware parts inside the PS4
in fact, out of the box it cannot even play CDDA (audioCD) or view JPG/AVI.
inserting PS3/PS2/PS1 discs gives you a various errors.
- PS1: 'This disc is not supported by the PS4'
- PS2:
- PS3: 'Cannot play Playstation 3 format disc'
- DVD-movie: plays fine
- Blu-Ray movie: plays fine
- X360: plays the DVD movie track with message to put it in an Xbox 360 console
- ? : 'The data is corrupted'
- ? : 'This disc is not supported by the PS4'
- ? : 'Cannot recognise the disc'
