Second PS3 Slim model. RSX shrunk from 65nm to 40nm. NEC/TOKIN capacitors no longer used as the ones near RSX were changed to Tantalum.
The "Yellow Light of Death" sequence was changed with this revision, where the power LED no longer turns yellow, although the rest of the sequence is the same.
An LED Diagnostics Mode sequence was added with this revision to give a secondary error (SYSCON) code if a YLOD occurs. This can accessed by starting a fan test (done by connecting mains while holding the eject button and the fan runs at full power for about 30 seconds, then powers off), followed by pressing the power button three times, eject button three times, then power button twice. If done correctly, the power LED should now blink yellow once to indicate the mode has been activated. It will blink a further four times in four intervals. Each interval represents a possible binary value. For example:
G = Green, R = Red. Green is always 0.
GGRG GGGG GRGG GGGG
Starting from the right on each segment, a red starts at value 1 and doubles until you get to the left in which it becomes 8. A red value is in the first segment, which is one space to the left, meaning it is 2. The third segment has a red value which is two spaces from the right, which is 4. The other segments consist of solely green, so their values are 0. The result is that the system produces the value 2040.

Console/board without PlayStation 2 compatibility via hardware. Although this model does not support PlayStation 2 games via hardware, this board/console can run PS2 games using "PS2 Classics", in which the emulation is completely accomplished via software, which can affect the performance and graphics quality of the games, if compared to PlayStation 2 compatible models with hardware support. Jailbroken models can run games using Homebrew softwares that trigger the corresponding emulators in the console firmware. The emulation of PlayStation 2 in this model does not support, by default, the execution of games via CD/DVD disc. See: PS2 Compatibility |
