Differences between the 1000 and 1400:

  • On the DECR1400 you cannot use: Performance monitoring functions (libperf, libprof, tuner for PS3)
    • for SPU: PC sampling, Performance counters, Bookmark, RAW SPU support
    • for RSX: Signal Trace, User Events.
  • DECI3 is limited to one protocol and a data exchange size of 65535 bytes.
  • The two GbLAN´s share the same MAC ID and cannot be used in the same network segment.
  • In the 1000, the GbLAN DEVLAN is connected to the Communication Processor, in the 1400 it is connected to SouthBridge.
  • With a pre 0.85 bootrom you do have two HDMI outputs.

Unproven and perhaps just wiki vandalism with wrong information:

  • The 1000 could be turned into a System Debugger by changing the southbridge firmware and using a special system firmware; this allows Sony to debug the whole chain of trust, even though it needs to connect on every startup to the SCEI Headquarter Servers.

Note: S prefix can be attached to the second part of the SKU number to indicate the unit is specifically for trade shows or 'Debugging Station for AV test'. E.g. DECH-S2500A. There won't be a TEST logo on top to visually resemble a retail unit. It is however, functionality wise still a TEST unit.

AV Testing Tool (DECHS)

  • AV Testing Tool (hardware unit like Retail/CEX and Debug/DEX, but without games options, only BD movie)
The PlayStation 3 AV Testing Tool hardware is available for companies to purchase to test BD movie discs on PS3 before replication and development for advanced features on the Blu-ray Disc format.
The hardware currently supports the following features with additional features in development:
  • Capability to play BD-ROM master images on BD-R/RE
  • Region changing capability (supports changing between BD region A/B/C)
  • Switching HDCP On/Off
