This page is intended to document the actions taken by Sony when they perform official repairs to PS3 consoles.

General[edit | edit source]

  • Stickers added to the board (servicing date, RSX size)
  • OEM stickers are replaced; for regions that have dates/datecodes on them, they are sometimes updated
    • For slim and super slim models, an official "PlayStation refurbished" or "Factory recertified" sticker is also applied

  • RSX replaced with a newer revision. If the new RSX is a smaller revision:
    • The voltage regulator is modified as the RSX requires less power
    • The Syscon chip is replaced (with different programming) so that the PS3 can accept the smaller RSX
      • Syscon firmware version will be updated: F29 for 65nm RSX, or F38 for 40nm RSX
      • This has the side effect of resetting the CELL BE run time counter to zero, and clearing the Error Log
  • Any faulty NEC/Tokin capacitors are replaced with a replacement NEC/Tokin capacitor (tantalum capacitors are not used as replacements)
