Description

This feature allows interaction with the Playstation XMB as well as supported PS3 Games/Software and PS1 games.

A few settings on XMB are hidden during Remote Play or cannot be accessed.

PS3 can provide video and sound to the device or only video to the device when your PS3 audio is output to monitor or audio system.

PS3 20GB CECHB00 models (and others but unreleased models) can be used if they are using a wired connection to a wireless router even though the internal Wifi hardware is missing.

PS3-PlayStation Vita Remote Play capabilities

During TGS 2011 Sony showed off a number of examples of how the new device can interact with the PlayStation 3:

  • Killzone 3 and little big planet 2 were streamed into the device from a PlayStation 3 unit,

noting how a few of the Dual Shock buttons missing on the Vita are mapped to the touchscreen.

  • A Vita streaming movie content from Japan-only PS3 TV recorder Torne.

Note:

  • it is possible to pair PSVita with a PS3 on lower Firmware than 4.00 (e.g 3.41/3.55) by pairing as mobile phone / PC / PSP

Usage

Operating the PS3™ system's PS button:

This replicates the action of pushing the PS button on the PS3™ system's wireless controller.

1. Tap the screen.

2. Select (PS).

Issues / workarounds / tips

  • Officially Adhoc compatible titles
    • You can play online PSP games through the Access Point mode of PS3 if you connect both of the devices to Playstation Network. In this case, PS3 is providing to the PSP a wifi connection (not sure if this service is available outside Japan).
  • Officially RemotePlay compatible titles
    • Nothing to fix :P
  • Unofficially RemotePlay compatible BD titles
    • Use the patch or edit the SFO.
  • Incompatible RemotePlay titles
    • Most of the BD games in this section will launch with black screen due of the introduction video (codecs or resolutions) , ps3 reboot after a while. Can be resolved if you change the problematic videos with an other.
    • Homebrew like Frogger, puzzles collection don t function due to theirs authors decisions.
  • Unofficially RemotePlay compatible PSN titles
    • Use the patch or edit the SFO and then rebuild database from recovery menu (second method has better compatibility).
  • To "refresh" the XMB

When replacing a PARAM.SFO manually in the internal HDD (using a file manager, FTP, etc...), the system ignores it. This happens because the system is storing a "duplicated" copy of the old one.

The most convenient and quick way is as simple as booting the game one time (by pressing X button over his icon)... Then, inside the game press "PS" button and exit with "Quit game"... then you return to the XMB and the new PARAM.SFO has been loaded. So in resume... the XMB is refreshed when you boot it for first time so you need to boot it two times to load the new PARAM.SFO. (you can change something in PARAM.SFO as the first letter of the title of the game to check visually that your new SFO has been loaded)

If your new SFO is stil ignored by the PS3 after refreshing (mostly fews 3.55+ PSN games) or you can't boot it (TV not compatible, wrong order when installing, previous problematic SFO installed ....) or for easy sharing solution purpose, you'll need to overwrite it with your 1.01 SFO from install .PKG (or install first the edited SFO).

Other solution (need to be tested for the specific case of remote play but should work):

After replacing the PARAM.SFO of your PSN game with a corrected one, you need to change the available display modes in your PS3 settings to include 720p even though your TV doesn't support it.

Then you're going to launch the game. This will trigger the PS3 to read the corrected PARAM.SFO and to fix the entry in the database.

When the game starts the screen will be blurry and unplayable. Quit back to the XMB and restore your display's original settings.

The next time you'll load the PSN game it will display at 480p resolution and work like it should. Some TVs might support including 1080p when you edit the PARAM.SFO. I've just had better compatibility changing from PAL to NTSC instead of trying to upscale it.

Last solution can be to rebuild PS3 database by using the option "Rebuild database" from the PS3 Recovery Menu (this re-indexes all the files in the internal HDD). It is long but can fix rare problems.

If you got the message on XMB: "This content cannot be used during remote play", look at SFO tips.

If you have crash, XMB return, black screens, etc..., try to skip/switch the introduction video, play with differents resolutions but there are not so much more to do (or patch the EBOOT?).

From Sandungas' dissection of SFO [1]: found a possible way to activate remote play HD PSVita by editing PS3 games SFO but can be: only working on higher fw consoles / specifics to a few games (with their updates).

Need to confirm that by activating the attribute "remote play HD VITA" on a few games, it seems to resolve sounds problems.

If someone want to try with specifics SFO, I don't have a PSVita but can prepare some special SFOs with remote play HD PSVita or other unknowns flags/specifics category, previously tested on PS3/PSP and nothing more than returns to XMB as possible "bad" effects.
