This device as hideous as it looks, gave owners of the PSP 1000 the ability to play their games on a TV, here is some information from an ebay listing:

A. Overview:
The PSP TV Adaptor reflects the graphics on the PSP screen to the optical lens and translates the graphics into a digital signal. The digital signal is then read by the TV so that you can play your PSP with any large screen TV or Monitor.

To enhance the display quality, there are two optional display modes for different usages: Game Mode and Movie Mode. You can also choose one of the modes to suit you best when gaming and movie are performing at the same time.

For easy installation, there are clips to connect the adaptor with PSP. You could also use the original AC adaptor for the power input of the PSP TV Adaptor.

B. Operation:
1. Choose the video mode with the switch at the bottom of the PSP TV Adaptor to match the mode which your TV is using, i.e. switch to NTSC if your TV is in NTSC mode. 2. Choose the display mode with the switch at the back of the PSP TV Adaptor to the one you prefer to use: Game mode or Movie mode. 3. Put the PSP TV Adaptor on the middle of PSP. Make sure the clips are fixed on the two screw holes at the back of the console. 4. Insert the plug of the power cord of the PSP TV Adaptor to the PSP power adaptor port. 5. Insert the plug of the Audio cable into the audio output port of the console. 6. Plug in the AV cable into the console AV output ports according to the colors of the plugs. The yellow one is for video. The red and yellow ones are for left and right audio channels respectively. 7. Plug in the original power adaptor into the DC input port of the PSP TV Adaptor. 8. Power on the PSP TV Adaptor by pressing the on/off button on the top of it. 9. Adjust the focus wheel on the top of the PSP TV Adaptor to the clearest display. 10. Adjust the brightness wheel on the left of the PSP TV Adaptor to suit your TV.
