Portable RSS (often shortened to PReSS) is a RSS reader developed by Underminer. It is an alternative to Sony's RSS reader and it is a homebrew-developed application. PRess was first released in November 2007, and it has seen 3 updates. The latest, 0.31 which has been released on April 26, 2008. As of 0.3, PReSS can be ran on both a Phat and Slim. (Therefore meaning that it is 3.xx kernel compatible) So far, PReSS has support for both unprotected and encrypted support such as WPA, etc. Also, version 0.3 has been submitted to the PSP-Hacks Homebrew Coding Contest.
Features[edit | edit source]
Aside from being a normal RSS reader where users can add their own feeds that can viewed on the PSP, more features has been added to expand the usage of any one particular feed
ATOM/XML Feds[edit | edit source]
As some sites/users prefer to use these feeds over the RSS feed, this feature has been added in version 0.3. The ability to download RSS Feeds still remain.
AutoUpdate[edit | edit source]
If the RSS Feed for PReSS is added, PReSS will update that feed to inform users of any new updates to PReSS giving them an option to download it at their choice.
MP3/AVC/MP4 Download[edit | edit source]
If a feed links to a download containing a .mp3, .mp4, or an .avc file, the user can download, and save it to their memory sticks if they choose to.
Feed Catalogue[edit | edit source]
Also, a user can browser a catalogue of feeds to add to PReSS if they do not have their own personal feeds to add.
Link to Bookmarks[edit | edit source]
This feature allows a user to add a link to the browser's bookmark list with a link that easily accesses it.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
In 0.3, there are only 2 bugs that exist. They are not major, but they do affect the display of some feeds.
- Unsupported characters
Some characters can not be displayed properly, and instead are rendered like a box.
- Dropped spaces
For some feeds; the spaces around links (which are converted to italic text) are lost.
- Corrupted Images causes PSP to freeze
The PSP is NOT bricked. You can hold up the power switch for 10 seconds to shut down, and then power on to return to the XMB.
