During boot, some hash checks are made on OrbisOS files stored on the Serial Flash or internal HDD (known as LV2 CORE OS Hash on the PlayStation 3). This is to ensure all firmware files are unmodified. On PS4, as on PS Vita but unlike on PS3, some firmware files are personalized, that is encrypted with per-console keys. The digests are compared with the ones stored in [[Syscon]] SNVS.
The OrbisOS hash checks are made (known as LV2 CORE OS Hash) on the PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 4 runs a hash check on the FLASH file system to ensure all firmware files are not modified. Some have found that unlike PlayStation 3, the PlayStation 4 encrypts and decrypts the FLASH files with the public and private key pair.
