DiscID explained

  • The first letter indicates the storage format (always S=CD/DVD for PSX/PSone and PS2/PStwo, for PS3 it is B=Bluray).
  • The second letter indicates if the game is first party (C = Sony), or licensed from third party (L = others).
  • The third letter indicates: A=Asia, P or J=Japan, U=United States, or E=Europe (K = HongKong).
  • The last letter indicates the type: D = Demo, S = Full Retail Game, M = ?.

Note that for some third party games, Sony may take it and repackage with appropriate material for other territories, thus the game become first party as well.

DiscID (Productcode) reference: http://sonyindex.com/
e.g. PS3 Bluray:

Japan [BCAS, BCJS, BLAS, BLJM, BLJS]
US [BCUS, BLUS, BCUD]
EU [BCES, BLES, BCED]
HongKong [BCKS, BLKS, BCKD]

Sidestep, PSVita uses PCSF / PCSB : http://forum.trophies-ps3.de/spiele-and-trophaeen/90720-die-vita-pcsf-pcsb-liste.html (Sony = f = first party, B = backparty release ?)

Media letter codes for other sony consoles

PSvita

There are 2 naming standards used in PSvita, one of them fits pretty fine with the "old" naming convention used in previous sony consoles (where the "V" is a "PSvita card"), examples:

The other doesnt respect the old naming standard:

The first 2 numbers in the TITLE_ID

The numbers in position 1 and 2 in the naming format: ABCD12345 seems to have some indirect relationship with regions (looks redundant because the region is the third letter C but released games proves this is correct in some way, at least partially)

  • Notes
    • Probably a few more thousands of number ranges are reserved for each region
  • It works in the same way with digital contents license numbers (PKG's starting with TITLE_ID's like: NP*******)

  • Other games with TITLE_ID's that breaks this grouping:
    • NPJB00178: Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation
    • BCJS30001: Gran Turismo 5 (First Print Limited Edition)

  • Special prizes for funny license numbers:P
