Linux/BSD distributions

Linux/BSD distributions must conform to some aspects before they are useable on the PS3:

Side note : You can run a GNU/Linux distribution (OtherOS++) with a MSDOS partition table, but GPT is (very) recommended.

List of distributions

The below worked in old OtherOS (FW 1.60 =< 3.15) , should work on OtherOS++ with some effort as well.

Backtrack

  • Backtrack 3-5 (No PowerPC version is available, compiling one might be an option, but maintaining it would be a nightmare)

NetBSD

It should run under 3.15 firmware OtherOS. Glevand is working on a port to OtherOS++.

Original port to PlayStation 3 : ftp://nandra.segv.jp/pub/NetBSD/ps3/

Gitbrew Wiki page about NetBSD : http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/PS3:NetBSD

Glevand's NetBSD repository : http://gitbrew.org/~glevand/ps3/netbsd/

If you want to help to port NetBSD to OtherOS++, please join the following communication support :

Forum : http://wiki.gitbrew.org/forum/f/37/

IRC : Channel #otheros on irc.gitbrew.org (ssl/6697) or channel #ps3linux on irc.efnet.net.

Note : All the Gitbrew related links/support/etc are down at the moment and maybe forever (08/16/2012).

In order to help, you should at least got a proper working NetBSD environment on your PC, dual-boot, virtual-machine or harddisk installation.
