= Chassis ID =
The <b>Chassis ID</b> or <b>Chassis Type</b> is internally used to identify the so called <i>Range of Target Hardware</i> (the [[Motherboard_Revisions|motherboard]] and it's original planned surroundings) of a PS3.<br>
The Chassis Type only consists of one letter, it should not be confused with the letter appearing in the [[SKU_Models|SKU model name]] of phat consoles  (e.g. CECH<b>A</b>xx).<br> 
The SKU model names of [[SKU_Models_Nonretail#Prototype_Models|prototypes]] allow you to get the Chassis Type reliable (e.g. DEH-<b>F</b>H1500J-A for a CECHLxx prototype), <br>
you can also find the Chassis Type in the [[Platform ID]] and only on prototypes also on labels (e.g. [[:File:DEH-FH1500J-A_(front_view,_sticker).jpg|<b>F</b>]] or [[:File:DEH-NH00AK-E_Front_"Test".jpg|<b>N</b>]]) and inside the [[Flash:Individual_System_Data_-_cISD#cISD1|cISD1]] board_id.<br>
The PS3 firmware actually uses the [[IDPS#Structure|Product Sub Code]] to derive the Chassis ID.<br>
Since the Chassis Type only gives you the <i>Range of Target Hardware</i> you need to consider the Platform ID, which holds an additional numeric value, to identify the actual revision of the target hardware.
