Problems[edit source]

Sony never uses the CECHXxx code internally, neither the motherboard label (e.g. COK-001), the only thing which they use to identify the hardware is Platform ID, which contains the Chassis ID. On prototype units it's not only stored in syscon, but also on a label on the board and part of the board_id inside cISD1. They starts with the platform id, then get the chassis id which then maps to the numeric model code (1000, 1200, 1300...) and the model type byte inside the IDPS. The actual SKU name then gets assigned based on what they want it to be marketed as.

That's why I think the SKU name and board name are maybe misleading if you don't know how Sony works with them. The platform id is mapped 1:1 to your actual hardware, the SKU codes (especially for the early models) are all over the place. For example there're CECHA/DECHA with COK-001, COK-001 (with COK-002 syscon) and COK-002, also models certified as CECHE are sold as CECHA in some regions. The CECHM either had a VER-001 or DIA-001, completely different architecture and I wonder how many of these cases we haven't identified yet...M4j0r (talk) 13:49, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Critics and suggestions[edit source]

  • When 1 part gets changed in table, it needs to be changed on all subpages that relate (wrote by euss)
    • Yes, thats a problem, but the purpose of this tables is to replace the ones in frontpage... though is a long road to complete all the info, but when completed the table will be "legacy" (and with this i mean is not needed to edit it anymore so his complexity doesnt matters in long term)--Sandungas (talk) 00:32, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
  • The table is NOT collapseable (wrote by euss)
    • Is not the kind of table that could be collapsed or reordered--Sandungas (talk) 00:32, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
  • In this photo of a JSD-001 http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/images/a/a1/JSD-001-fuses-thermisters.front.jpg it looks like the XDRAM chips are X1032BASE-3CA2-F and X1032BASE-3DA2-F (one of each kind combined together) but searching in google for X1032BASE-3DA2-F doesnt returns any result, also CECH-30xx models are still using the same XDRAM chips than CECH-25xx, so X1032BASE-3DA2-F probably doesnt exists and is just a disturbance on the photo --Sandungas (talk) 00:32, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
  • the rows for fans can be splitted by manufacturer delta/nidec/nbm-mat

02/01/2023 - An entry for the SKU Models page was added by an anonymous user (niino was that user who is a large PS2 contributor here), he updated the page to include missing PPX and REX-001 model and info but was reverted back by Roxanne. After talking with him we discovered he did remove items he should not have so I can respect those reverts, but we should add the PPX and REX motherboard items for visibility. (wrote by nikitis)

  • Ooopsie :) that wasn't on purporse. The automatic revert function reverted both entries from him. I added them back now manually :) - Sorry Roxanne (talk)

PS3 Retail Production Timeline[edit source]

The table shows the PS3 models ordered chronologically and based on the time when the console was manufactured (aka Manufacturing Date, or DateCode)

The release date is when each PS3 model was available in shops for the different world regions and that date could be bigger than its Manufacturing Date (available in shops some weeks or months after manufactured). This release date appears in the blue cells in format: YYYY/MM (REG), where: YYYY=year MM=month REG=region/s

The red cells are a roughtly approximation of the date when this PS3 model entered in mass production, is based in the oldest datecodes reported by owners of this PS3 model in internet

The grey cells are an even more roughtly approximation of the date when the production of this model stopped. In the practise most probably the end dates matches with the start dates of the next model, to avoid manufacturing different models in the same factory. In other words the factory lines are "updated" to manufacture the next PS3 model

Critics and suggestions[edit source]

  • Exceptions to above information.
    • UK CECHM03 Is a CECHH series, with DIA-001 Board and having a datecode of late as 8C, still with min version firmware of 1.97, not a factory refurbished item and still has metloadr1. The significance of the exception is that the flash contains the IDPS of a unit with SKU Model 6. Meaning if you relied on the above information table you would be expecting to see an IDPS of 00 00 00 01 00 87 00 08 XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX when infact the IDPS will be 00 00 00 01 00 87 00 06 XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX. Further proving the CECHM03 (possible other regions too?) series is not board type DIA VER-001 and of course not a refurbished unit, as the IDPS doesn't change when sony official refurbishes units. After tracing the timeline of information I believe the above table was compiled by copying another website entitled "ps3 secrets" and no checking has been done to its validity.(User talk:86.158.223.119 - 1st January 2016 - 12:55 GMT+2). Nobody reported ever of a CECHM with a DIA-001 motherboard, most probably this console was made from parts of others (case of a CECHM + DIA-001 motherboard). So is not a problem specific of the info in this page, incase there is needed to add some details about this PS3 model please post it in CECHMxx page

Note how production lines was overlapped in fats... but not for the slims

Minimal and maximun datecodes for the production life of each PS3 model can be deduced from the table

Around May 31, 2017 the PS3 production ended for japan http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/gaming/810752/PS3-Sony-ends-production-PlayStation-Plus-update

PS3 1000 series naming theory[edit source]

By sandugas.

I just noticed an interesting detail about ps3 fat models letters. I noticed time ago, but I'm counting them and it matches fine.
The point is ps3 fat models are "1000 series" internally are named starting with 1000
The proof is: [[Namco_System_357#357A_.28GECR-1100.29_COK-002]] and [[Namco_System_357#357B_.28GECR-1500.29_VER-001]].

so... CECHCxx and CECHExx (with COK-002)... are "1100 series"
and... CECHLxx, CECHMxx, CECHPxx, CECHQxx (with VER-001)... are "1500 series"
CECHA and CECHB (with COK-001) are "1000 series"
etc...

count them here ---> [[Bluray_Drive#Bluray_Drive_Revisions]]
is by motherboard (and there are "only" 6 motherboards used in PS3 fat retail models)
COK-001 = 1000
COK-002 = 1100
SEM-001 = 1200
DIA-001 = 1300
DIA-002 = 1400
VER-001 = 1500
note how it matches with arcade models :)

also... DECR-1000... the mother of COK-001 = 1000 series
and DECR-1400... should be the mother of DIA-002 = 1400 series
also... in ps3 fat preproduction and prototypes always is used numbers... never letters A,B,C,D,E... etc...
example...
CBEH-B1104-B <--- this should be an "1100 series"... so based on COK-002
DEH-FH1500A/J(-C) <---- and this one should be a "1500 series"... so based on VER-001
