The PS2 has many storage device interfaces, to access games and savedata, but also Linux.
Storage access speed[edit | edit source]
Interface name | Maximum read speed | Notes |
---|---|---|
CD | 24x max read speed: 24*1.229 = 29,496Mbit/s = 3.687MB/s | |
DVD | 4x max read speed: 4*11.08 = 44.32Mbit/s = 5.54MB/s | |
USB 1.1 full speed (theoretical) | 12.5Mbit/s = 1.562MB/s | equivalent to 10x CD speed, less than 2x DVD speed |
USB 1.1 through UlaunchElf (measured) | 4.080Mbit/s = 0.510MB/s | |
10/100Mbit/s Full duplex ethernet | 100Mbit/s = 12.5MB/s | 8 times faster than USB 1.1; equivalent to 81x CD speed, 9x DVD speed |
SATA-IDE HDD | faster than 133MB/s: limited to 1064Mbit/s = 133MB/s | 85 times faster than USB 1.1; equivalent to 865x CD speed, 96x DVD speed |
